Question: Did you send Christmas Cards this holiday? — I will admit right here…I am still working on them, heheh. I call them “Holiday Cards”. Good things come to those who wait, right?

Another Question: When is the last time you wrote a letter? An actual letter? And gave it to someone? Snail-mail? Paper? You know, all that business that involves your brain putting some thoughts or greetings on paper. — I’ll admit, it’s been a while.

So old-school — write a letter? Why would I do that? I can Facebook them in a heartbeat, send them emoji’s to let them know how I feel (smiley with heart eyes, crying while laughing), instagram a photo of my kids and show them what I even had for lunch — if they’re interested.

This is where we bring in the pros and ask the Royal BC Museum. They’re running a Letter Writing program this week, designed to bring attention to the benefits of getting OFFline once in a while. Why? Well, in part — imagine what the museum would like like one day if we never picked up a pen? A room full of screens, framed Facebook posts, Tweets from legendary politicians, role-models, cultural leaders? Just what trail of archives will be left behind?…a bunch of floppy-disks and out-of-date technology that you can’t access with the most amazing stories that nobody will ever hear again?

Drop by this week from 11- 2pm and try out the letter writing stations and learn more about archiving. This week is Community Days at the Royal BC Museum and admission is by donation too. That includes your first peek at the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibit and access to entire museum…and it’s archives.
