It was an interesting weekend in Victoria. It’s not often you have hockey royalty come to our town on the Island, with all their friends — and their broadcast crew. It was great fun at Ship Point all weekend with Hometown Hockey featuring our city on the Canucks broadcast on a Sunday evening.

While we were endured the “car wash” weather of blowing sideways rain, sunshine and every other form of rain and wind mixed in there all day Sunday, Hometown Hockey still warmed our hockey hearts.

It took me all of 30 seconds of the Hometown Hockey broadcast with Ron MacLean talking about our great city while images of orcas, Elk Lake rowers, BC Ferries, and beautiful historic downtown Victoria flashed across the television screen..to start tearing up. I don’t know why!? Haha, maybe it’s just one of those moments where get to you share your love for your city and all that is great about it with multitudes across the country, I guess…does that make sense?

Heap on feeling of inspiration that local Olympic athletes like Simon Whitfield and Adam Kreek bring as amazing role models for kids in our community. Geoff Courtnall and his family’s incredible impact on our city, bringing mental health resources is the topper. Score for Victoria!

Read Ron MacLean’s Hometown Hockey blog about Victoria, there’s some great personal stories in here that will warm your heart in many places.
