It’s been a heart-wrenching week. After a tragic on-duty accident, we come together from Langford, Sooke, View Royal, Saanich, Victoria and all corners of our community to pay respects to a mother, wife, daughter, friend, co-worker and RCMP Officer, Constable Sarah Beckett — A hero to us all.

We’ve been shaken in many respects after the loss of this celebrated officer while she was on duty early Tuesday morning in Langford. She was a mom, and a protector — an officer that was working to make this community safe for her children, and ours. It’s a devastating loss for family, friends, co-workers and the entire community. The ripples of the tragedy have been felt across the country, with an amazing show of support for her family through a Go-Fund me page in addition to condolences coming in from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and police family across the country.

Flags fly at half-mast, flowers pile up outside Westshore RCMP with a book of condolences inside her detachment, a motorcade procession through the streets to the Victoria Airport, and a candle-light walk this Sunday are some of the many ways the community are working through the tragedy to pay respects to this amazing woman. Online messages can be left at bc.rcmp.ca.

Thank you Constable Sarah Beckett. We remember your shining light.
