Hatchimals (Hatchimals.com)

Almost every year or two, there’s a new toy that everyone gets excited about…and then depressed about, well if you’re the parents anyway.

This year, it’s Hatchimals. They are…little interactive…birds??? Yes, that’s…a bird. And they’ll walk and talk if you teach them, but first — you get to HATCH them from an egg. Well, now that they’ve hatched, I see they have an array of creatures with spectacular names and you won’t know what you’ve got — until it hatches.

I see the lure there, that’s pretty cool. But of course, like Elton John tickets — the Hatchimals demand does not meet the availability.

Hatchimals craze causes frustration as demand outstrips supply

A quick look inside the parent brain …”Oh great, My kid is in love with this thing more than my aunt loves Elton — What if I can’t find one?” Hold up – Do you need the stress? Check out the reviews on Amazon for hot parent tips from those who’ve hatched. Some good intel on them here as well.

My first question with these kinds of toys — Does it have an OFF button? Really, if I’d asked that question about Furby, that thing wouldn’t be sitting in a liquor cabinet right now — just to keep it quiet.

So off button or not, at this point, the inventory isn’t there in stores — it’s time to explain to your kids that “Santa is at the mercy of bad supply chain and they’ve run out of magical egg shells, so the Elves can’t even make them”.

And save the stupid amount of money that people are trying to gouge on websites. The thing is $69.99 — don’t pay a cent more, you should only get excited if you pay a cent less, that’s how this works. You’re looking for a deal, remember? Or just hang in there til next year, when there’ll be so many of those little eggimals in stores that you’ll get them for $20% off!! Something to look forward to! Now you’re not feeling sad anymore, right?

Excuse me, I’m going to go check on the Furby now….
