An Emotional Jimmy Kimmel Shares Frightening Details of Son's Birth

Jimmy Kimmel, the host of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” was fighting back tears as he shared with his audience the terrifying details of his son’s birth on April 21.

The late-night television host explained in a heart-felt monologue that his son William was diagnosed with a heart disease. The baby boy had a heart murmur, which Kimmel didn’t suspect to be a serious issue as his daughter also had one when she was born. It wasn’t until William ” appeared to look “purple” and the room was filling in with more doctors and nurses that “now all of a sudden it felt serious.”

William underwent successful heart surgery, but he will have to have another in 3-6 months to repair any leftover damage, and then once more in his early teens. The Kimmel’s were able to return home with their newborn 6 days after the surgery and he’s “doing great.”

After getting cheers from the audience, Kimmel took the time to thank the doctors and nurses who saved his son’s life and urged the audience to donate to children’s hospitals. He also criticized Donald Trump’s proposed cuts to National Institutes of Health.

Kimmel will be taking a much deserved week off work with guest hosts filling in.
