Fyre Festival

You’ve probably heard of the disastrous musical festival in the Bahamas that touted “private luxury villas” and “first-class culinary experiences and luxury atmosphere.” Turned out those villas were nothing more than disaster relief tents, and those culinary experiences? Yeah, that was basically a slice of bread with processed cheese.

Thankfully, the festival was cancelled after the news spread. And now, Fyre Festival and Ja Rule are facing a $100 million class-action lawsuit for multiple counts of fraud. The suit was filed by Geragos & Geragos a well-known firm who have represented Michael Jackson, Chris Brown, and Ke$ha.

Obviously this festival was a horrendous disaster, but what makes this fraud? The court filing says that the defendants had known for months that their festival was under-equipped and was dangerous to anyone in attendance. They are accused of knowingly lying about the safety and accommodations of the festival, but were still promoting the event and selling ticket packages.

Here’s what the promotional video for the festival looked like:

Turns out Ja Rule is worth about $8 million, much less than what he’s being charged for.
His festival promoting career will most likely be very short lived… hopefully.
