When we heard that the legendary Beatle was coming to Victoria. Many said…what? An actual Beatle?! Yep, sounds like a Beatle, looks like a Beatle and is still having a blast bringing music to fans around the world. And that is exactly what transpired last night here in Victoria where Ringo Starr was last night with his All Starr Band, hanging with a crowd that filled every available seat in Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena.

And the show looked something like this.

That was definitely the first concert that I’ve smelled incense wafting around the room instead of…other herbals...Ringo Starr and his All-Star Band came out on stage and were received with much affection. Along with that incense, there was a real theme of peace and love on stage that was weaved throughout the songs and Ringo peace-signing the crowd. The crowd swooned at Ringo’s every move and All-Starr Band members told their stories of practicing Beatles songs on guitars when they were 15, so we were all pretty much pinching ourselves in the legendary Beatle’s presence.

The All-Starr Band are Mr. Mister singer Richard Page — with his voice , scene-stealing Todd Rundgren, Toto guitarist Steve Lukather, former Santana singer and keyboardist Gregg Rolie, and ex-David Lee Roth/Santana drummer Gregg Bissonette along with amazing Bread saxophonist Warren Ham. With Ringo Starr, that’s a grand total of 3.5 million amps of talent and experience thrilling audiences on stage and in the studio over the past 50 years.

The setlist ranged from Ringo’s staples, Photograph, It Don’t Come Easy, to Beatles numbers such as Yellow Submarine, With A Little Help From My Friends to songs to represent every member on stage plus more. Toto’s Africa, Hold the Line (sounded amazing) to Mr. Mister’s Broken Wings and Kyrie and Santana’s Black Magic Woman and Oye Como Va and Todd Rundgren’s Bang on the Drum All Day. After which Ringo reminded us that he does Bang on the Drum All Day…and it’s pretty great.
