Fish Eye Live Dive

I’ve always wanted to learn how to scuba dive. We live on an island surrounded by a whole world of undersea life, and for many of us — it’s a mystery. This Wednesday on World Ocean’s Day, that changed for a number of us. The Fish Eye Project hosted a “live dive” for hundreds of kids and fans of the ocean at IMAX Victoria. The Fish Eye team were diving at Ogden Point Breakwater, but their fish eye view wasn’t limited to theater participants. The dive was streamed live at IMAX theaters across Canada and on the internet.

Here’s a replay of one of the live dives on World Oceans Day with the IMAX Victoria theatre packed full of local school kids, media and even Victoria’s Mayor, Lisa Helps. The live dives were “attended” by more than 130 classrooms and 3,500 students online

One of the most spectacular things about the Live Dive, besides the fact that you felt like you were really under the sea with Sabastian and Ariel — is that you could send questions to the diver via Fish Eye Project’s Facebook and Twitter. Keely the diver would answer you back through her tech crew. She fielded questions from kids across the country, so amazing.

The Fish Eye Project are planning to bring us along on a salmon run this fall through their amazing technology. This is only the beginning of a deeper understanding of the vital underwater world that many of us only glimpse on the shoreline.
