Once again this year thousands gather in the inner harbour to be part of the biggest music event this island sees every year. Symphony Splash has been going strong now for 26 years and we have been a part of it for about 16 of those. We spend a few hours on the 120 by 40 foot barge behind the scenes watching the amazing job our friend Tom Fjal and the rest of the technical crew do every year. The barge was to be mothballed a couple of years ago by the company who owns it but it’s kept around now just for this event. Back there are generators, dozens of microphones, stacks of enormous speakers and a dedicated bunch of men and women who make the show sound good a sparkle.

They expect about $30,000 in donations which is less that a Loonie per person. The show itself cost about 300 grand so they are losing a lot of money. Perhaps if we all gave $5 this year it might help offset the costs a bit. The earliest you can set up your lawn chair is 8am Sunday morning and they expect you to stay with that spot for the next 10 hours until the show starts at 6:20am. You can enjoy our banter MC’ing again this year talking about the family Fun Zone and introducing bands like the Midnights ~ Forbes N’Marshall
