It comes once per year like Christmas, but without the green and red…just sparkling whites.

Le Diner en Blanc idea was a gift from France — the first event was held in the 80’s near the Eiffel Tower and since then, parties have been inspired around the world. Victoria has had it’s own taste of this French tradition for the past four years and it only gets more and more popular with this year’s event hosting 1,700 guests on the shores near the Songhees Walkway.

The secret location was revealed early that evening to those who were registered for the event, and they packed up to head to the Songhees in front of Delta Ocean Point Resort. The weather not only cooperated but was perfect for a picnic by the ocean. The sky was spectacular with dark clouds on once side, blue sky on the other, and a sparkling sunset in between.

Entertainment during the evening included the riverboat style trio, Dixie Dreamboat, the stirring pop melodies of Familiar Wild, jazz and R&B originals and favourites by the Eryn Sharpe Trio and returning after a very popular performance at Diner en Blanc 2015, DJ Michael Tedham.

Finally, there was the traditional napkin wave, where everyone waves their white napkins at the beginning of dinner and the evening ended with the lighting of thousands of sparklers and dancing.

If you’re interested in attending the event, get shopping for whites right away (haha) and check out this link for details on how to register.
